Outland Publishing Fair 2026

July 04, 2026

Back in April, I had the honour to speak at Outland Publishing Fair about ethnobotany and how it has informed the work that I do thus far. By sharing the process of making the book as part of the research on edible and non-edible plants in Malaysia, the talk also focused on the ecological knowledge and lived experiences of the Orang Asli community, based on their relationship to the land and access to forest fragments. Some plants are native and embedded in their palate, while others such as ‘ubi kayu’ have been adapted, opening up a conversation about the evolution of tastes and eating what is available in a given place, season, and time.

Besides that, both Recalling Forgotten Tastes and latest zine series, No Roads Without Trees (more on that soon), were on display and on sale during the fair.
